PJ Picklelime's gift for rehabbing lost or injured birds, and her ability to communicate with them, brings her into the lives of an array of neighbors of all ages and from many different countries who teach her everything from gardening to making chocolate truffles. She teaches a lost yellow warbler named Lemon Pie to sing again before he goes off to help rehab baby gulls hit by an oil spill. The gulls join PJ's wonderful little community of birds and friends who later help her expose a cruel member of the community. PJ seeks the wonderful wisdom of her neighbors when she finds she also needs the sort of help and heartfelt advice she gives to her bird buddies.
